Year 2012

It is an astonishing and pleasant fact at the same time that in the face of the endless crowds of fans of digital downloads and the MP3 format a slice of the market is establishing itself - and in continuous growth - of music lovers who for no reason want to give up the dear old LP, a support that can boast a glorious history of over 60 years. To these connoisseurs Stockfisch has dedicated the second volume of its prestigious Vinyl Collection, including ten tracks performed by some of the most prominent artists of the German label. The program has been compiled in order to provide on the one hand a taste of the latest records released by Stockfisch and on the other hand an intriguing preview of upcoming releases. This album presents for the first time on LP one of the songs recorded by Allan Taylor during the famous session with Porsche and Burmester, "That Train" by Ewen Carruthers - a moving tribute to the memory of the great English singer-songwriter who died in 2010 - and some of the most significant works by the melancholic Irish-born Canadian singer Paul O'Brien, by the Australian folk duo Carl & Parissa and by Pretty Blue, the latest album by David Munyon.

However, the most eagerly awaited tracks are the piece taken from Mitten im Sturm, the first album made for Stockfisch by Katja Maria Werker, the piece performed by the guitar virtuoso Ralf Illenberger, author of several top-level recordings published by Stockfisch in the 1970s and today residing in the United States, and a beautiful song chosen from Paul Stephenson's third album, which will be released on the market during 2012. Furthermore, the German label is proud to present a completely unreleased song by Chris Jones, the extraordinary guitarist who died prematurely in 2005. During a recording session held in 2001 Chris found a splendid guitar in his hands, a Dreadnought built by Moritz C. Sattler (Manzanita), on which he improvised for hours. Luckily for us, the Stockfisch sound technicians did not miss that event…
