The Sony 57ES is a digital recorder that embodies the elegance and build quality typical of Sony's prestigious ES series.
On the rear panel, the Sony 57ES offers only line-level inputs and outputs for analog signals, along with digital connectors in SPDIF and optical formats. The power cable is fixed and integrated directly into the chassis with a cable clamp, a common solution at the time.
Inside, the Sony 57ES features a solid structure: most of the components, except for the power supply system, are arranged on a large single circuit board, occupying a significant portion of the internal space. The mechanical section stands out for its complexity and operational reliability, ensuring precise functionality.
From a technical perspective, the core of the A/D conversion is the CS5339 by Crystal Semiconductors, a 1-bit integrated circuit. For D/A conversion, Sony has implemented a pair of proprietary circuits: the CXD2560 for digital filtering and the CXD2561 for the actual conversion. These components help define the Sony 57ES’s sound quality, delivering detailed and accurate audio reproduction.
Overall, the Sony 57ES stands out as a reliable and well-built digital recorder, with solid mechanics and high-level sound performance.
