Opera Loudspeakers was founded in 1989, but its origins date back to the early 1980s, from an unusual yet extremely fruitful synergy between two cultures and two audio enthusiasts, one Italian and the other English. The first loudspeaker to bear the Opera name was the Caruso, a precursor to a series dedicated to the legendary voices of opera. Callas, Operetta, and Divina soon followed, gaining widespread acclaim in the world’s most developed audio markets. Opera loudspeakers immediately stood out as a fusion of traditional Italian craftsmanship in woodwork and advanced acoustic technology.

The 7” woofers are made by Scanspeak to specific requirements for the entire Classica series. These woofers, with aluminum diaphragms and 38 mm voice coils, offer excellent performance in the midrange, making them suitable for use as midrange drivers. Their construction includes a metal ring for flow control and a die-cast basket for maximum rigidity.

The midrange driver, identical to the woofer, benefits from an oversized excursion that reduces intermodulation. The rear radiation is controlled by an effective acoustic trap made from pyramid-shaped polyurethane. This ensures a coherent and clear sound.

The tweeter, from the Scanspeak D26 series, is a high-quality transducer with a treated soft dome, dual magnets, and ferrofluid. It has a frequency response extending up to 30 kHz, with resonance at 860 Hz, reducing the influence of woofer vibrations.

The crossover uses a cascading configuration, with high-quality components and high-pass cells designed to minimize the microphone effect. The careful selection of capacitors contributes to a stable and precise acoustic image.

The cabinet is made from 30 mm MDF with a curvature inspired by the Malibran model. The sides are veneered in real wood and polished, while the structure is reinforced for greater rigidity. The Opera Quinta features bars for mounting on spikes or wheels and is prepared for bi-amplification.

Gold-plated brass connectors ensure a secure connection. The sealed enclosure makes these speakers particularly suitable for analog record (LP) playback and ideal for home theater systems, where they can be used without the need for a subwoofer or center channel.

The regular impedance curve allows for less sensitivity to the quality of cables and amplification. The Opera Quinta is a 4-ohm nominal speaker, compatible with amplifiers capable of driving 4-ohm loads. Although part of the Classica series, the Opera Quinta represents a significant qualitative leap, offering excellent sound reproduction and a competitive price-to-performance ratio.
