One of its key characteristics is the ongoing fight against noise. For this, Thorens has developed an electronically servo-controlled belt drive system, paired with an exclusive floating suspension system. This configuration allows the TD 126 Mk III to achieve noise levels so low they have never been matched by other drive systems.

The THORENS ISOTRACK TP 16 Mark III tonearm is designed to ensure optimal tracking ability. It's not enough for the bearing friction to be low; what truly makes the difference is a low effective mass. A high mass prevents the stylus from accurately following the imperfections (warps) of the record. The Isotrack arm is designed to minimize this mass, allowing the system to track at the lowest possible stylus pressure, while also reducing vinyl wear. Its effective mass is about half that of a typical tonearm, making it particularly efficient in following the groove without damaging the record. Additionally, the "split wave" technology used in the treatment of the arm tube absorbs all unwanted resonances, further improving sound quality.

The electronic shut-off system is another innovation that makes the Thorens TD 126 Mk III unique. The frictionless speed detection allows the motor to stop automatically and the tonearm to lift when the platter speed decreases near the center. This function is entirely electronic and frictionless, ensuring precision that does not depend on the tonearm position. Additionally, the system prevents the automatic shut-off from being activated when the arm is manually moved across the record surface, and a separate motor is used for tonearm lifting, avoiding any unwanted vibrations.
