The original design of Tannoy drivers, created to address the chaos of public transport and overlapping voices in pre-war Britain, was meant to cut through the incessant background noise. Today, the Legacy models, including the Cheviot, continue a tradition that dates back to 1926 when Guy Fountain founded the Tulsemere Manufacturing Co. These speakers are still equipped with coaxial drivers (Tannoy terminology: Dual Concentric), where the tweeter sits behind the mid/bass driver within the same frame and magnet assembly. Despite the passage of time, these drivers still penetrate the noise of everyday life with incredible clarity. The Cheviot, in particular, is based on design principles that, while rooted in the past, still offer remarkable performance today.

The Cheviot, with an efficiency of 91 dB, is a speaker that easily adapts to any amplifier and position, delivering a harmonious response even on traditional wooden bases, as well as on spikes or feet. Its sound presence is surprisingly realistic and engaging, with a well-controlled bass response. The walnut veneered cabinet measures 33.9 x 17.6 x 10.2 inches and is built to last, with the driver boasting 75 years of production. Despite the evolution of manufacturing processes, the Cheviot continues to be handcrafted in the Coatbridge factory in Scotland, reflecting a strong demand for a design that has proven its longevity.

The Cheviot delivers incredibly detailed and dynamic reproduction, offering a real sense of presence in a room, with extraordinary imaging capabilities. The tonal balance is rich and natural, with bass response easily adapting to different spaces thanks to the adjustable bass port plugs.
