Compact high-performance speaker, designed around the patented JBL D2415K dual-diaphragm 1.5-inch compression driver, paired with a large horn and a 12-inch woofer featuring a pure pulp cone and cast frame. This combination delivers authoritative and precise sound, rarely achievable with traditional designs.
Designed and engineered at JBL's renowned acoustic engineering facility in Northridge, California, the 4349 showcases JBL's patented technologies. This 2-way monitor features patented High-Definition Imaging (HDI™) technology, the D2415K 1.5-inch (38 mm) compression driver, and a 12-inch (300 mm) pure pulp cone woofer for powerful dynamics and incredibly accurate sound reproduction.
JBL’s revolutionary HDI horn geometry is the result of extensive research into horn design nuances, aiming for exceptional high-frequency detail and uniform directivity for smooth in-room response. This design ensures neutral frequency response both on- and off-axis, with a seamless transition between the high and low-frequency drivers.
The JBL D2415K compression driver benefits from advanced research from JBL Professional’s "D2" series. At the core of this device are two lightweight, polymer annular diaphragms that enhance high-frequency extension by reducing diaphragm mass. The V-shaped geometry minimizes breakup modes, eliminating time smearing and reducing distortion. This design employs dual diaphragms, dual voice coils, and dual motors for outstanding efficiency.
High-frequency and ultra-high-frequency tone controls are located on the front panel, beneath the horn, allowing sound customization to suit specific environments and listener preferences. These controls work with a sophisticated crossover network featuring air-core inductors, wound-wire resistors, and low-ESR metallized film capacitors, optimizing the 4349’s components’ performance.
The 12-inch (300 mm) woofer leverages JBL’s advanced engineering techniques to deliver high output with low distortion. The 3-inch (75 mm) long-throw voice coil and dual opposing spider dampers ensure maximum output with significantly reduced distortion. The pure pulp cone provides a lightweight, rigid diaphragm, eliminating breakup modes and maintaining pistonic motion across the operational range.
The 4349 enclosure is reinforced with 1-inch (25 mm) thick walls, providing a solid acoustic foundation. It features a bass-reflex design with dual front-firing, computer-optimized flared ports. The cabinet showcases the classic JBL monitor design with a blue baffle and a choice of satin walnut or satin black walnut wood veneer finishes. A blue (walnut) or black (black walnut) cloth grille completes the elegant design. Dual sets of gold-plated binding posts allow secure connections with single-ended or bi-wire/bi-amp options.
