Pair of floorstanding loudspeakers

Capriccio Continuo was founded by ATD (Audio Transducer Design) in Italy in 1981 by a group of audio engineers dedicated to the pursuit of sonic perfection. This relentless quest over the years has led to the creation of the latest masterpiece by its founder Joseph Szall, the Auralea 309.

The speakers are designed using a unique "Arch Dam" cabinet philosophy, where the inner part is concave and the outer part is convex. This physical characteristic allows for a very rigid structure, which helps distribute the cabinet's resonances evenly, resulting in a remarkable acoustic performance. The front and rear panels of the cabinet are not parallel, creating a natural, three-dimensional reproduction of the soundstage that is focused toward the listener.

The Auralea 309 interprets the needs of audiophiles in an entirely innovative way. They are a concentration of exceptional performance, designed with the goal of maximum musicality in a linear project.

To achieve this, a specific study was conducted on the essence of musical signals, which focus on an interval where super-low frequencies are rare, while the demand for detail naturally comes from the highs. For home use, a classic two-way design was chosen with a modest environmental footprint, featuring a ribbon tweeter. The Capriccio Continuo Auralea 309 requires typical installation of a mini-speaker, but the pedestal space is utilized to enhance the low-end response and overcome placement challenges.

Technological advancements are marked by two terms: IMN and FAST. The first (Isotact Matrix Nano) refers to the use of nanotechnology in the cone material. The second (Folded Aero Striction Transducer) refers to a new ribbon tweeter design, an evolution of Oskar Heil’s iconic speaker, with an updated emission characteristic. These two magnificent drivers are housed in a post-modern style cabinet that echoes the curvature typical of musical instruments, simplified for modern interiors.

The Kapton diaphragm was chosen to provide the best sonic match to the woofer, which also uses a Kapton voice coil. Its volume is designed to be non-invasive, with the front panel being extremely compact to avoid diffraction issues. When listening, the transparency is noticeably superior compared to competitors, creating a sense of dispersion that makes the speaker seem to dematerialize, leaving only the music to shine, reproduced with freshness and detail.
