The Linn Linto phono preamplifier is designed with the main goal of achieving an extremely low noise level. The tiny cartridge signal is directly coupled to the input transistors of the Linto, bypassing the traditional loading circuit. Linn claims that limiting the cartridge's voltage in this way generates additional noise and degrades the signal quality. Furthermore, the company states that the switch contacts commonly used to select loading can generate more voltage than the cartridge itself.

The Linto's direct-coupled design eliminates the need to apply the cartridge signal to resistors, preventing a significant portion of the tiny signal from being converted into heat. This allows the Linto to provide much higher resolution, as "every electron is used." Linn emphasizes that the already low output impedances of most cartridges make them "relatively unaffected" by any "reasonable" loading impedance.

The Linto stands out for its design, which prioritizes maximum fidelity and signal preservation, minimizing interference and optimizing sound quality.
