The Audio Analogue AAphono phono preamplifier is part of the PureAA series, fully embodying the Audio Analogue philosophy: minimalist design, excellent performance, and great attention to detail, materials, and components. The AAphono is designed with a dual operational amplifier configuration that distributes the total gain between the two amplifiers to achieve a precise and balanced RIAA curve response. Special attention has been paid to selecting high-quality, low-tolerance components, used in parallel to minimize errors. To prevent distortion caused by any disc warps, a subsonic filter is placed between the first and second amplifiers, preventing low-frequency oscillations from saturating the gain stages.

An offset recovery on the final stage, combined with multiple power supply filtering stages, completes the preamp design. The AAphono is powered by three separate toroidal transformers, each dedicated to a specific section: one for the digital part, one for the right analog section, and one for the left, keeping the grounds well isolated from each other. All components, both passive and active, have been carefully selected to ensure the highest quality. The capacitors used for RIAA curve equalization are plastic, low-tolerance types, ensuring maximum accuracy.

Another strength of the AAphono is its versatility. For MM cartridges, the input capacitance and resistance can be adjusted, while for MC cartridges, the input resistance can be modified. All these adjustments can be easily made through buttons located under the unit, near the front panel, without the need to dismantle the device or configure numerous switches. The selected settings are retained even when the unit is unplugged from the power supply, offering further convenience.
