The Elex-R is a further refined version of the Brio-R, benefiting from the sophisticated power stage and Phono section of the Rega Elicit amplifier. Rega engineers have managed to achieve the perfect balance between power, control, and dynamics, delivering performance that always puts the music at the center of the listening experience. Its design offers complete connection flexibility, making it easy to integrate with the rest of the Rega product range.

The Elex-R is built to exceptionally high standards to ensure the best possible audio performance while remaining easy to use and set up. Its chassis, typical of Rega products, is designed for effective heat dissipation. Furthermore, the inclusion of a larger transformer allows the amplifier to deliver 90 watts per channel at 6 Ω and 72.5 watts per channel at 8 Ω. Rega has dedicated time and resources to the design and construction of the Elex-R, using components of the highest quality. Notable features include a pre-amplified output, enabling it to integrate into a wide range of systems. At the same time, unnecessary features such as tone controls or a headphone input have been deliberately avoided as they can negatively impact the signal path and degrade sound quality.

The amplifier is designed to last, adhering to the high reliability and quality standards characteristic of Rega products. Its primary function is to amplify and equalize the signal from a cartridge, DAC, or CD player, bringing it to a level that can drive the speakers without introducing distortion. The typical distortion of this model is extremely low, only 0.007%.

The Elex-R uses an amplification system developed after extensive research and design, focusing on a Class A emitter follower power stage. This circuit employs 150W Sanken Darlington output transistors, which, due to their thermal noise network, operate at a lower static current than traditional transistor configurations, improving thermal stability and sound quality.

The amplifier stands out for its volume control, which combines feedback and passive techniques. This system allows precise volume adjustment, maintaining constant tracking between channels and minimizing differences between them. Additionally, this volume control reduces noise and input overload by using only the necessary gain to amplify the signal. This technology, usually reserved for professional settings, enables accurate control without distortion.

Anyone familiar with Rega amplifiers will immediately recognize the Elex-R’s sonic character. Its sound is fast, agile, and incredibly precise in following rhythm, something that few amplifiers in its price range can do as effectively. Tonally, the Elex-R leans towards a lean timbre, but when paired with sources and speakers that aren't overly bright or harsh, it proves to be a very balanced amplifier. Its ability to highlight details is impressive, even in more complex tracks.

With a power output of 72W per channel at 8 ohms, the Elex-R is suitable for most environments and setups, perfect for delivering dynamic and engaging sound.
