Stacey Kent is back with her exceptional band to pay a passionate tribute to the great songwriter Richard Rodgers. In addition to a series of songs that are part of her repertoire such as "Bewitched" and "It Never Entered My Mind", the singer residing in England looks with interest at the exotic atmosphere of the South Seas, performing two little-known jazz songs such as “I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair” and “Bali Hai's”. Thankfully, these are two of the standout tracks on the lineup, with the last one – featuring a burlesque-like 6/8 center section – regularly managing to win over even the fussiest of listeners. The sound is vigorous and exalts both the variegated arrangements and the mischievous timbre of Kent to the maximum degree. As for the program, it should be emphasized that the thirteen carefully chosen pieces based on texts by Oscar Hammerstein II and Lorenz Hart are all jewels of inestimable value, of which Kent expresses the music of Richard Rodgers with sublime vitality and elegance. Thanks to Kent's flawless, clear and perfectly defined interpretation, we are quite sure that Rodgers, Hart and Hammerstein would wholeheartedly approve of this record.
