The Strandberg Audio Sonora is a speaker with a fullrange driver and additional tweeter, designed to work perfectly with low-powered amplifiers from 5W upwards. Sonora is a high-sensitivity speaker with a classic design, featuring the latest driver technology. With a focus on ease of drive, low distortion, and non-resonant technology, the goal is to create an uncomplicated sound that is easy to listen to and responds well to the smallest input signal. The drivers with extremely light cones are easy to drive with a small amplifier and offer high sensitivity. With low cone mass, a deep response cannot be achieved in a small cabinet, so a larger cabinet has been created. This allows for deep, clear, and natural bass without compression while maintaining high sensitivity.

Cabinet:

The cabinet is tuned to provide a natural roll-off without any ringing in the impulse response. The cabinets are made from thick MDF with internal damping pads to minimize material resonances. The cabinet is heavily braced to ensure rigidity, and the damping pads make it non-resonant, preventing the cabinet from storing sound in the time domain. Natural wool is used for internal acoustic damping, loosely packed to avoid storing sound within the damping material.

Crossover:

The 1.5-way crossover, with the minimal number of components, is hardwired with high-end Mundorf capacitors and baked air coils to prevent any internal component or filter resonances. The result is perfect timing within the crossover and throughout the entire frequency range.

Drivers:

The 8” fullrange and tweeter drivers have been specially selected and custom-developed by renowned driver manufacturers, offering the latest driver technology of the 21st century. The extremely lightweight 8” fullrange driver, with built-in copper rings in the magnet system, provides symmetric drive and suppresses intermodulation distortion. With low losses and a large window in the chassis, it reduces air reflection noise, resulting in industry-leading voice handling and extraordinary micro/macro dynamics across the entire frequency range. Similarly, the 30mm waveguide tweeter offers perfect time alignment, excellent vocal rendition, and precise imaging at all listening positions. The large roll surround, built-in copper ring, and textile dome diaphragm provide a flat frequency response above 30 kHz. A large rear acoustic chamber reduces compression and moves the tweeter system's resonance well below the crossover point. The level is a few dB lower than the 8” fullrange driver, adding extra detail, resolution, and dispersion above 10k to support the fullrange driver.
