CD player with external clock

Puccini Player
Built to the highest specification, Puccini features a sleek, solid aluminium fascia, high grade aluminium casing, metal buttons and a smooth transport mechanism. Whether in CD, SACD or DAC mode, Puccini will extract every last bit of detail from your music, bringing a realism to the experience that you have never heard before.
In common with the Scarlatti and Paganini ranges, Puccini uses our proprietary DSD signal processing and dCS Ring DAC™. When playing a CD or a source via the digital inputs, Puccini can upsample conventional PCM to DSD and offers the choice between PCM or DSD playback.
A number of optimised DSP filter options elevate the performance further and allow listeners to use Puccini as a standalone DAC or the ultimate one-box CD/SACD player.
Puccini sets the performance standard for single-box CD/SACD players and DACs by optimising key dCS technologies in one stunning chassis. It also features a digital volume control (allowing you to connect directly to a power amplifier), as well as two digital inputs so other digital sources in your system can benefit from the onboard dCS Ring DAC™. A precision VCXO clock generator is housed in Puccini, and this can also be synchronised to an external master clock to further reduce jitter and improve performance.
Matching the Puccini Player with a U-Clock reduces jitter to even lower levels, improving on an already spectacular sound by taking it into an entirely new domain. With the clock added, images snap into sharper focus, the music gains authority and power, as well as offering noticeably higher detail resolution. Puccini U-Clock also features a USB to S/PDIF converter, which lets Puccini owners play high resolution music stored on computer via the legendary dCS Ring DAC inside the Puccini Player.
Puccini benefits from our ‘soft’ approach to programmable logic that allows new software to be loaded from a dCS update disc to add new features and adapt to changes in digital formats.

- Upsamples Red Book CD and other digital sources to DSD format and plays SACD natively.
- Designed for maximum flexibility so both input and output configuration can be optimised for systems with various digital sources.
- Flexible output configuration can be optimised in systems with or without preamplifiers.
- All dCS products use a sophisticated multi-mode Phase-Locked-Loop (PLL), which significantly reduces clock jitter.
- The built-in Paganini Transport uses a solidly constructed TEAC UMK5 mechanism with a metal tray built specially for dCS.
- Improved power supplies give lower running temperature and superior tolerance to AC supply variations.
-‘Soft’ approach to programmable logic allows new software to be loaded from a dCS update CD to add new features and adapt to changes in digital formats.

Puccini U-Clock
About the Puccini U-Clock
The Puccini range features the award-winning Puccini U-Clock which is a separate Grade 1 system clock to further reduce jitter and improve performance. Matched with the Puccini Player it improves on an already spectacular sound and takes it into an entirely new domain. With the clock added, images snap into sharper focus and the music displays a substantially greater sense of authority and power as well as offering noticeably higher resolution of detail.
Puccini U-Clock also features a USB-to-S/PDIF converter, which lets owners play high resolution audio from a computer through the legendary dCS Ring DAC™ inside the Puccini.
dCS equipment is designed to generate and accept industry-standard Word Clock on 75 ohm coaxial cable. dCS Clocks will drive other manufacturers’ equipment designed to accept standard Word Clock. Non-standard clock formats must be assumed to be proprietary to that manufacturer.
USB has numerous modes for synchronising the audio between a host computer and an audio device such as a DAC. ‘Adaptive’ is the most popular of these, and involves the audio device synchronising itself to the USB ‘frame’ provided by the computer. However, this tends to give poor jitter performance so Puccini U-Clock operates in asynchronous mode, where the audio device synchronises the audio by providing a feedback pipe to the computer. The computer is effectively locked to the audio device, which then benefits from a much more accurate clock for dramatically lower jitter. USB is isochronous, which means that the host (PC) and client (Puccini U-Clock) both know how much bandwidth is available at the outset, so the host can guarantee that bandwidth will be available all the time.
Music files may be stored on an external Hard Disc Drive (HDD) or Network Attached Storage (NAS) in a different room, networked to a small, silent Mac or PC connected by USB cable to the Puccini U-Clock. When the user selects the audio for playback, the computer streams music from the HDD or NAS device, then outputs the data via USB.

Key Features
Four Word Clock outputs further reduce jitter and improve sonic performance.
Asynchronous USB input allows direct connection of a computer audio source and supports high resolution files up to 192kS/s PCM, and DSD in DoP format.
Isochronous and asynchronous USB mode prevents the source injecting jitter into DAC.
High-grade aluminium chassis and laminated acoustic damping panels reduce magnetic effects and vibration.
