The MC301 also features Power Guard, a waveform comparison circuit that continuously monitors input and output signals. Power Guard dynamically adjusts the input level to prevent clipping and harsh distortion, maintaining a clean, pure sound.

The MC301's dynamic and crystal-clear sound adds energy and presence when paired with any preamplifier. The ideal setup would include a pair of MC301s paired with one of McIntosh's stereo preamplifiers, such as the digital D150 or the analog/digital C47.
